Benjamin Toniutti
  • The USA opposite is an all-around player
  • After being named to the Dream Team in 2018, his performance in the next edition just got better
  • Which club team did he have his most successful stint?

France's hitters arguably delivered the most entertaining plays at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. The enabler of those great plays was setter Benjamin Toniutti, who led his team to a silver medal finish.

Toniutti's great precision certainly helps his hitters stand out. And he also takes matters into his own hands to deliver victory, like in the five-set win over the United States in the semifinals, when he contributed three points from attack and service. His setting was almost flawless as he made 276 running sets and only a single fault in the final round, for a setting average of 17.25 per set.

Toniutti's professional career began with Arago de Sete in France from 2009 to 2013. He then spent one season each with CMC Ravenna in Italy, Zenit Kazan in Russia and VfB Friedrichschafen in Germany before moving to Polish club Zaksa Kedzierzyn Kozle in 2015. He has won three Polish Championship titles, three Polish Cups and two Polish SuperCups. Despite only finishing second this year in the league, Zaksa Kedzierzyn Kozle will participate in the final of the CEV Champions League on May 1.
